Run or Jog?

Hi ive been going to the gym for about 2 years now and lost a lot of weight. My arms, legs, shoulders are toned up bit i have a little bit of a saggy belly and waist. Its only a very little bit but i want to tone that up aswell. I have donne a lot of sit ups and can feel my stomach muscles are solid underneath the fat but what is the best way to lose this fat? I use to do the weight loss program on the treadmill but for the last couple weeks i have been running for one hour and doing a 2 minute sprint after the run. Someone said to me that the est thing to do to burn fat is to keep your heart rate in the fat burn zone which is walking/jogging but i dont burn as many calories doint this. So what is best to burn 800+ calories running or walking/jogging and burn 500-600 calories but heart rate in fat burn. Also how many calories do you burn on the rowing machine, in 15 minutes it said i burnt 350 calories which i think is a lot and the calorie counter is working properly.

Thanks in Advance

Hi Josh123,

well done on your great results so far!
it's not really about the calories burned during your workout, but more about how long your workout leaves your metabolism elevated for, combined with what you're eating & drinking.

Restistance training and some intervals will give you much faster results than hours and hours of cardio, and give your metabolism a boost for about 24 hours after your workout, whereas long cardio sessions only focus on burning cals during your workout. It's not that cardio doesn't work, it's just its not the fastest way thats all.

Clean up your diet a little (ditch any processed foods, including bread, cakes, biscuits, choc, alcohol etc) Switch to 4 resistance workouts a week, combined with cardio intervals and cut your workout times to about 30 mins.

let us know how you're getting on!

If you want your abs to show, you have to decrease your body fat %. Much of this is thru diet (pearshaped had some great tips above), but exercise is also very important. Doing interval training 1-3 times per week is a great way to burn calories and preserve lean tissue. Keep these workouts to a max of 30 mins (this includes a 5 min warm up and a 5 min cool down). I would suggest doing 2-3 interval training workouts per week and 1-2 longer, lower intensity cardio workouts (ie. in the 'fat-burning' zone) per week along with a clean diet. Do you do any weight training?
