Run and Weights or just run?

Hey all, I'm new here.

Wanted your alls opinion on something.

I'm currently running about 2.5-3 miles a day, and a small high rep weight work out right after. I could easily run 3-6 miles a day if I skipped the weights, but I feel I have to at least put a little stress on other parts of my body.

Am I better of ditching the weights at the end, and do some heavier weights like twice a week and run longer distances or keep up with what I am doing?
 
What is your goal? What are your stats?

But in general, I would alternate days, heavy weights 2-3 days a week and longer runs on alternate days 2-3 times a week, for optimal fitness improvement.
