I'm about to purchase a rowing machine for home use with a maximum budget of £200. I can't decide between the new 'quiet' magnetic type or the traditional air resistence models.
I've not heard of these magnetic types before. I would be interested in whether you get a sense of momentum like you do with the air type. Thats what i have at home.
Probably the biggest deciding factor between magnetic vs. wind would be noise. Most of the fan rowers are pretty loud. I haven't tried a magnetic one yet but your budget should get you a used Concept 2 B or C wind trainer. Those are pretty nice but big and some consider them loud but they are considered the standard in erg machines.
Personally, I have a WaterRower which uses water as resistance but it was spendy. The club I belong to has Concept 2 C rowers but their newest model is the C2 D.
I have a magnetic rower not a wind rower. The wind ones sound like they are loud things but the magnetic rower I have is not very strenous. It's resistance is poor for what I was expecting so I am thinking of getting a wind rower.
£200 is the price for the cheapest wind rowers, I find magnetic rowers cheaper
