Sport Rice Cakes?

Sport Fitness
I sometimes snack on rice cakes when I sort of feel hungry and it takes my hunger away. I was wondering if any of you eat it as well or know if it's good or bad for you. any info would be great! thanks in advance :)

I guess they aren't bad, but it seems like they are so processed, that most of the good stuff is gone...

I used to snack on them a few years ago. The main thing they have going for them is that they are low in calories, but they offer little if any nutrition.

I have since switched to snacking on fresh fruit. Still low in calories and better nutrition.

that's what i've read about rice cakes. that although they are available, you are better off eating some fresh fruit instead of the empty calories that come w/ rice cakes

they aren't that great, but they could be a lot worse compared to what most people eat here in America.
if I recall correctly, the lack of fiber and a semi-high glycemic index is what makes these so-so.
still better than eating a Snickers.

true i am better off eating fruits. i don't eat much fruits at all actually, which is not good but i should change that from now on...thanks you guys!

Rice cakes are a little less messy for me to snack on at work, and are definitely fill. But better than a candy bar. :) Maybe I'll get around to getting some fruits easily prepped for snacking. Weee. Go rice cakes! (Hah, sry, bored)

Interesting. My experience has been the opposite. As I remember, rice cakes generated a lot of crumbs when I used to eat them at work, Fruits on the other hand, are a lot less messy (apples, pears, etc).

Eh, I'm tidy? Dunno, I usually have very VERY little crumb issues. Fruits leave sticky subs on fingers or whereever they sit sometimes and its a bitch to clean. *shrug* I guess it just depends on how you eat? :)

While preparing for her figure contest, my girlfriend actually had these post workout. She got the brown sugar ones, they tasted better than the regular ones.

As for having them for snacks, if it fits into your totals and you see results with it, then have them. :)

I agree with other replies already made, fruit is much better; taste and nutritionaly. However over fried potato chips I would go with the rice cakes, possibly with a Tbl spoon of almond, cashew or peanut butter, on the carmel rice cakes. Something to hold you over.

Rice cakes are ' refined carbs ' and ( the white ones at least ) tend to have GI scores ( 80+ ) - getting your blood sugar up pretty quick.

Not a big issue if you have rice cakes with some peanut butter and / or some milk.

I guess it just depends on ones view on refined white sugar and brown sugar, and how this fits into the scheme of the caloric content and personal goals.

However, I prefer to get my blood sugar risen from Simple Carbs (Fruit, etc) and Complex carbs (Oatmeal, etc), and shy away from Rice Cakes due to the refined white sugar/brown sugar contents. Just a personal preference though.

rice? it's starch

Put it in your mouth, chew it up good, hold it there, without swallowing for 5 minutes. You will tast the rice cake (starch) turn to sugar. Considering the blood holds roughly a teaspoon of sugar when it's running normal, you can see it doesn't take much rice cake (starch) to double/triple/quadruple, etc... your blood sugar, which plays hell with your insulin resistance and your bodies hormonal directive to store fat (insulin).

Have some steamed spinach.
