rest

i know that the most importatn part of a workout is rest. I have a question though.

How many hours is a GOOD rest after a workout. I would say 9 hours.

So tell me this....would it make a difference if I went to sleep at lets say... 11pm and wake up at 8am.(thats 9 hours) or if I went to sleep at 2 pm and wake up at 11am.(thats 9 hours)

or if (just for the hell of it) I wwent to sleep at 4 am and woke up at 1pm(thats 9 hours).

My question is....does it matter what time you go to sleep...as long as its 9 hours???

thjanks

yes, it makes a huge difference. Something that I learned in psyc at University is that your body has a biological clock that has a certain time during the night that it likes to be asleep. If you aren't in deep sleep by this period at night, your body isn't getting a proper rest. Now, every person is different. Some people need to crash at 9:00pm, while others can survive just fine until 3:00am. During University, I rarely got to bed by 1:00am, but was always up by 7:00am for my 8 o'clock class ... but, after doing this for a couple years, I functioned just fine on the 6 hours. You can slowly change your 'clock', but if you don't have a set sleep pattern, you will find it hard to get a good nights rest.

yeah - you can change your body clock for example if you always work nights and sleep in the day. You could then lift weights at night and rest in the day and get the same results. So the actual time of day makes no difference, just your own internal body clock (which is of course usually geared for resting at night!)

Also dont forget the 'rest' is not just sleep, it is from the moment you put the last weight down, to the moment you next exercise.

i work 2nd shift so I come back at 11:30pm. I usually eat something after(cause I get a little hungry) and sleep around1:30 or 2 am. That has been my cycle for about 3 months, ever since I started the job.
