i have only started going to the gym recently and wondering how much rest time i should give between workouts. i'm currently starting to do 1 hour moderate too intense workout group session. as much as i can although because this works every muscle in my body just about (as i'm doing sessions like pump & vive). i can't just go to a session the next day straight away because otherwise it will hurt far to much. or should i just stick it out?

so at the moment, for example, yesterday i did body pump for an hour, today i would have gone back but i'm in pain everywhere, also i'm drinking protein shakes straight after workouts and trying to get as much as rest as possible. suggestions on what i should do?

since i'm a newbie, should i workout once a day, 2 days rest, work out again, 2 days rest blah blah until i build up a tolerance.

or should i just go as much as i can and get through the pain?

this is for weight loss, i'm not trying to build muscle, i just don't want to strain myself and not give time for my muscles to prepare for the next workout.

Hello there,

Great topic.

Rest days are very important for muscle regrowth, If you keep tearing the muscle everyday you do not give it time to regrow, even if you are drinking protein shakes. When doing High Intensity Training for weight lose, it is generally easier for the muscle to recover but it is still advised to have at least one rest day within one week. For fast results, assuming you are in decent shape, Six days a week, Monday to Saturday, is fine and you will be okay. But if you feel that you cannot complete the workout the following day of a previous workout,do not complete the workout. Skipping a day is not the worst thing that can happen to you. Workout to your ability, only you can be that judge.

Hope that helps a little.
