reps and weight

could someone please clear up this for me.

which do you do to get more muscles and which do you do to just tone up?

like is it a lot of weight for a few reps or a little weight with a lot of reps?

thanks so much. this has me sooo confused.
 
Some details about yourself would help. How old are you? Are you male or female? Have you done in terms of sports in the past? The answer can be very different depending on those factors.
 
I have the same question...I am 25 and male, and I have played lots of soccer in the past.

I want to get a little big, but more toned. Should I left heavy one week and the next week lift light but with more reps, in order to get bigger and more toned.
Or should I left heavy for 1 month and the next, lift light with more reps??

i didnt know it mattered if you were male or female or the age. i just want to know for general information.

can you give me info for both?

i am 50 - 120 lbs - female in good shape - i am a trainer at a circuit gym
