Hi, I am sort of new in that I constantly stop and start routines and never stick with them long enough to get out of the noob phase.
I am working on setting up a new routine and I want to make sure I understand what I am reading and when I hear people say, the last rep should be hard.
Now, I am not lifting to failure yet. I don't plan on lifting to failure until later on down the road, much later. I am working on strength and endurance right now. Later I plan on working on size and shape. At this point, I am so small that working on strength and endurance will put muscle on me as well.
Should I be lifting a weight that is heavy enough so that my last rep of the first set (after a warmup) should be hard? Or is it the last rep of the last set (before cool down) that should be hard? If rest between sets has anything to do with this answer, I will probably be resting between 1-4 minutes depending on the body part. I am also aware that all the reps are supposed to be in good form.
Thanks, just confused by what previous trainers have told me that the last rep should be hard. At the time that I had a trainer, I didn't know enough and wasn't at the point where I was doing more than one set to ask about sets.
