Hi everyone,

I have heard that caffeine is a good stimulant to get your workout on a good start. I have previously been drinking coffee but with the summer months coming up, I just cant see myself drinking a hot drink and then sweating it out in more heat! Was wondering whether the sugar free Red Bull drink would be a good alternative? Is it bad for you? My bf seems to think so....I only used to in the past to keep me up for revision at university. What is it like combined with exercise?

Thanks for helping! xx

You know.. I love red bull and I use it from time to time at work and school.. but i always wondered that too.. if its sugar free.. would it help still? i dont know..

There's a lot of strange stuff in Red Bull:

Taurine
GLUCURONOLACTONE
Caffiene
Group B Vitamins
Sucrose
Glucose
Acesulfame K
Aspartame

All chemicals really....that can't be good for you.

Yeah I saw a program on the news about how bad it is for you.. red bull is the least bad but still not to good. but its still one of my favs.

Sodium is a big part of it too....

Aside from the other "mystery" ingedients it is also high in sodium. From what I saw on their website the sugar-free version actually has more sodium. In moderation I am sure it is fine, but please remember, this stuff was outlawed in many countries in the past and has been the cause of many a young persons death when combined with booze. Now of course these are extreme cases, but still, gives one something to think about. Many people have died as a direct result of this little energy booster. Might be better to look at other options. They only sell the sugary version here, so I don't even consider it.

A big part of my weight loss journey is learning to ween myself off these little "helper" items which get me through the day. Like beer. I do enjoy a beer, and I know it isn't good for my diet. But I still have one every now and then, sometimes a couple. But the days of having a couple a day are long gone. Maybe if you are needing an extra jolt of energy in order to get into your workout there is something more to it than just needing a supplement to get you moving.

Perhaps there is a healthier alternative to getting your boost of energy before a workout?
