Recovery Drinks

I have been seeing great results using an overpriced recovery drink called Surge by Biotest. I really like this product and the company that makes it, but after using it for a few months, I just can afford it anymore. My question for all of you is, do you think I should go through the effort of buying simple sugars and measuring out the correct protein/carb. ratio and making my own recovery drink or would i get the same effects by taking a quality whey shake after my workout and then eating an apple or drinking some low fat chocolate milk?

it's hard to beat whey + dextrose. fruit is not dextrose, its fructose, and doesn't do the same good stuff in your body as dextrose, malto dextrin or pure glucose.

surge is really well formulated stuff...but yeah its spendy.

just do whey or a blend like Nitrean, and add simple carbs. you can get dextrose (a.k.a. corn sugar) at any home beer/wine making shop, usually under $1 a pound.

i too make my own beer, mead, and wine. makes it hard sometimes to not over-consume/wreck my diet lol.

15 gallons on tap at home, and more bottles.

haha I agree! it can be so hard when I really feel like a beer or another beer and I have to fight the urge! My last beer turned out so good its hard to keep my hands off of it. I have thought about trying to make my own wine, does yours turn out pretty good?

SO- If iam using "Body Fortress" 2 heaping scoops, how much corn sugar would I add?

Malkore- good to see you, you are da man! I am doing heavy athletics now. Well, just started.

I use my kitchen scale to weigh the amount of dextrose in a scoop.

Off the top of my head, I think the 30cc scoop I use is 40grams of dextrose. Even 20g of dextrose post workout will help spike insulin and replenish glycogen.

You definitely want to weigh it, since not all scoops are created equally.

so-- we will call it a "heavy splash?"
