Really need some help :(

Hi guys, i'm new to the forum as i'm really in need of some help.

I've been dieting now for nearly a month and am yet to loose a single gram of weight. I am currently 10stone exactly, and am aiming to loose around 6-7 pounds, as i am not severly overweight, just want to loose a little. I had aimed to have lost most of the weight already, and so am becomming really disheartened and every day feel like crying when i get on the scale.

For the first two weeks i was eating quite little, usually cereal for breakfast, chicken or fish for dinner and a couple of snacks in between, averaging aroung 800-1000 calories a day. After 2 weeks of no difference i went online where i read that i was porbably in starvation mode and should eat more. For the last two weeks i have been eating aroun 1200-1500 calories a day. (cereal for breakfast, fish or chicken with vegetables for dinner, soup of salads for lunch, some snacks of fruit/ cerea bars etc) I go to the gym a few times a week, but lead a fairly active lifestyle anyway, as i walk everywhere *i can't drive* and have a busy part-time job as a waitress.

I really dont know what to do, and i know that i havent lost anything as i look the same, and my clothes feel the same.

Please help, im going crazy!

Thanks, anna xx

Just keep up the good work, even though it doesn't seem as though it's working at the moment, sometimes it takes some time!

It does seem as though the calories for the first two weeks were low, so I'm glad you upped it. How tall are you? What type of cereal for breakfast? A lot of cereals are sugary. Maybe try some oatmeal or eggs? And cereal bars have high fructose corn syrup in them, well some of them do at least, so check and see that that isn't the first ingredient, as it is on Nutri Grain bars I believe (although I do love those).

Maybe don't concentrate on the scale so much. Keep with your diet and exercise. Measure your body...arms, thighs, waist, hips, bust and remeausure weekly or every two weeks to see if there's a loss in inches. Every if the scale doesn't budge, it's motivating to see inches lost. That helped me a lot!

Good luck on your weight loss journey! Keep us updated in any changes. :)

Hey, i'm 20 and i'm about 5,7". I've no idea about any other stats though as i don't measure myself or anything!

Thanks for the help so far guys

You aren't of the type who will diet hard for a week or two only to eat a lot for the next week or two b/c the scale didn't go your way.

Are you?

Serious question... it's quite common.

I am currently 10stone exactly,

That's 140 lbs I believe.

and am aiming to loose around 6-7 pounds, as i am not severly overweight, just want to loose a little. I had aimed to have lost most of the weight already, and so am becomming really disheartened and every day feel like crying when i get on the scale.

My first piece of advice would be to stop giving the scale power over your emotional well being. Start taking pictures and measurements and ditch the scale for now.

For the first two weeks i was eating quite little, usually cereal for breakfast, chicken or fish for dinner and a couple of snacks in between, averaging aroung 800-1000 calories a day.

Why did you think 800-1000 calories per day would be okay?

How were you tracking your calories?

After 2 weeks of no difference i went online where i read that i was porbably in starvation mode and should eat more.

That's in correct. It doesn't happen like that. Do some searching on the forum if you're interested in finding out why.

For the last two weeks i have been eating aroun 1200-1500 calories a day.

Again, how are you tracking this?

I go to the gym a few times a week, but lead a fairly active lifestyle anyway, as i walk everywhere *i can't drive* and have a busy part-time job as a waitress.

What do you do in the gym?

No, I wouldn't consider myself to be like that. I haven't tried dieting in the past as i've never really needed too, and this time i've been trying pretty hard for 4-5 weeks with no results and don't want to give up :)

I know eating so few calories at the start was stupid, i just genuinely wanted to see some quick results, also i was ill for a few days in the first week, and couldn't eat much more than that anyway.

I track the calories by the labelling on packages of food as well as i can, but those numbers are obviously very rough, and could probably be pretty far out either way.

In the gym i tend to use the treadmill, bike and crosstrainer for about 15-20 minuets each, and usually another 15-20 minutes of something else if i feel like it at the time. I don't do sprints on the treadmill though, just a fast walk *as i fell of a treadmill once while running and have been scared to ever since!*

Thanks again, Anna

Well priority number one, at least until you get things figured out here, would be getting a firmer handle on your caloric intake. Sign yourself up to and purchase an affordable food scale. That way you can get precise with what's entering your mouth.

Secondly, I'd recommend some weight training in some form or fashion.

Thirdly, women your size can really have some "problems" with water fluctuation. Water can completely mask fat loss. Meaning you might lose a few pounds of fat in a month but the scale doesn't show it b/c of the water weight. Nothing terrible with this... you just can't tie your emotions so close to the scale.

Actually read this.

*fingers up* (biologist here hehe :) I like reading stuff related to evolution)

Your calories seem ok, try pushing harder when working out. Also, only weigh yourself once every week / 2 weeks to make sure your on track. Weight fluctuates too much to weigh yourself daily.

If you were starving yourself it may take a bit before the body decides it's ok to give up some weight.
