Ready To Tone Up For Summer

Hi. I'm 22 years old in college and I haven't been eating so great at school. I'm ready to start exercising again now that winter is pretty much over with and I want to really tone up for summer. I don't know where to start. I'm 5'2'' 126 lbs, so it's hard already to get slim and toned. Anyone have any suggestions or things that they have done that has really worked for them?
 
I have a full equipped gym here at school. I would love to work out three days a week and I would be able to commit to that 100% unless the weather is horrible and in that case I won't walk down to campus to the gym.
My diet isn't consistent really. I eat a lot of pastas and meats right now, but I did get gorceries the other day and I have more healthier items. I never followed a strict diet before. I am so used to just eating whatever is available to me up here.
