Weight-Loss Raw Food Diet

So I just started on this diet for about 2 weeks ago and I seen my weight drop from 80kg to 77kg in 1st week. It is basically what the title says, my diet only contains raw food. As in I eat everything raw... I have modified it to a vegan only diet because I don't want to eat raw meat :puke:.

The diet does work with my weight loss. However I am having concerns about the diet itself. Since I am eating garden salads everyday and that is like only having a maximum of 600 calories per day. Don't let the calories fool you, sometimes I can't even finish what I have made for dinner. At the moment, I feel perfectly fine and I have been going to the gym 4-5 times a week.

Also, I had a cheat day last Sunday and stuffed my face with carbs and a slice of chocolate cake. WOW I was so bloated and full with only 2 pieces of bread with the cake that I wanted to vomit it out because it my belly was just bursting! I do still have temptations, To counter it I chew and not shallow now. But I am more inclined to stick with my diet because I feel like crap after I eat something that isn't part of my routine, lol.

I was wondering if anyone has tried this diet before? Any type of advice is welcomed! Thanks!

600? that is very bad..very very bad. This is going to hurt you long term. To drop that much weight in 2 weeks is dangerous.

I am afraid based on what I read that you aren't really learning portion control or nutrition. It reads like stave stave stave binge purge stave stave.

hell..the statement 'I chew but don't swallow' is usually a sign of an eating problem.

Why do you think a raw diet is good for you?

Just eat normal foods in moderation, it works for a lot of people and you can much more easily avoid the temptation to cheat or fall off the rails. The diet you describe doesn't sound sustainable at all, leaving you open to gaining back anything you lose while subjecting your body to this.

There are definite risks of not getting enough protein - muscle deterioration is one.

I know that if you want to keep to 'raw' you can steam some foods, such as turkey, at a low temperature. (I don't know the links). Another suggestion would be to get protein powder and make some shakes with it. There are concerns that the human body didn't develop to eat nothing but raw foods, so it is possible to get in trouble.

You can also add in nuts (I know you can find raw almonds) for extra protein, sprouts also have a higher amount than your average garden salad, unpasteurized milk & cheese is also 'raw' (you have to get it from a local dairy though, due to regulations).

Or you can eat 80% raw and 20% cooked - get the most bang for your buck and not have to be so limited. This doesn't mean 80% salads and 20% cake though ;) Especially not if eating cake makes you feel lousy.

Not to scare you, but people have died from very low calorie diets, so it really is something you want to be careful with.

You may want to go out and get the book "Becoming Raw" by Brenda Davis, RD and Vesanto Melina, MS, RD. It will help you with eating more kcal and keep things interesting with lots of good recipes.

Thanks for the advice guys! The 600 calories wasn't meant to scare you. I do eat nuts, especially almonds!

It is just that I was calculating the calories I have been eating and I added them, so the average turned out to be less than 1000, since each serving I was having was basically 50 calories. I am not starving myself or becoming a anorexic! Trust me on that. I do feel full when I am on this diet. The chewing and spitting thing was just so I could keep to this raw diet on the first week. It was mostly the desire to taste cook food. But I do eat a lot on this diet.....

I have tried the portion diet, for me it isn't enough control over my eating habits and I often get confused on whether the portion size is too much or too little. When I do try to follow the guidelines, I end up losing no weight at all.

I herd of people doing a cheat day? For assistance with weight loss? Body confusion? But I am afraid that cheat days won't actually work. Not in a way to binge though. But more in the sense of confusing your body, similar to that of the PX90 workout.

If you're only averaging 600 cals a day you could have a full out binge day a week and still lose weight!!!!!

yea the 600 calories does seem hectic. The book ForMeForLife recommended may help me tremendously with increasing my calorie count.

(rephrasing)

Could you tell us your reasoning for doing the 'Raw food' diet?

Raw food diet is a diet based on unprocessed and uncooked plant foods, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, sprouts, seeds, nuts, grains, legumes, nuts, dried fruits, food and seaweed.Heating 116 degrees Fahrenheit or more is considered destruction of enzymes in food that can help digestion and absorption of food. Cooking is also considered to reduce the nutritional value and "life force" of food.

I think I'll just continue to cook my foods and eat meats
