Random pullups and pushups vs. letting your muscles rest

I just read someone recommending hourly sets of pushups throughout the day. That sounds like something I'd like to do, along with similarly timed pullups. (Actually, it would probably end up being once or twice a day, but still in addition to my regular workouts.)

Would the benefits of doing these random sets outweigh the disadvantages that come from working these muscles twice in a day or on consecutive days and, possibly, not giving the muscles adequate rest time?

The theory behind it is pretty good but I haven't ever really done. The key is not to push to failure if your doin them regularly. leave a bit in the tank. This will help with muscle endurance and will help condition the muscles but if your going for muscle growth then you're better of having time to recover and pushing hard when you do them. I wouldn't do this in conjunction with a normal workout schedule though as you will be "robbing from peter to pay paul" as it were with your muscles.
I'm sure there will be someone on here who can give you more detailed info on it though.
