Quite Concerned

Hi,

I'm a 30 yr old female, 5"7 and 16st 3lbs. What concerns me is that since February I've gained over a stone - I've gone from 14st 12lbs to 16st 3lbs - in just under 6 months and this seems like a huge amount of weight to pack on in this timeframe. I know I need to shift the weight now as my jeans are struggling to do up and I've gone up a size in blouses.

Advice and support would be much appreciated.

Hi,

I'm new to the forum but would like to help if I can.

So, would you say that you are eating more than 2000 calories per day? If you are not over-eating, I would see your doctor as it could be a thyroid issue or some other medical condition. However, from experience (I'm a clinical nutritionist), those who put on weight and can't understand why, it's usually a case of the odd snack here and high calorie drink there that sends them over their calorie requirement and if this happens every day, it's easy to put on a significant amount of weight over a period of a few months.

Can you count calories? If so, just count up everything your are eating and drinking and limit snacking. Remember that all foods and drinks (fruit and veg too) contain calories so don't miss anything out, except for diet coke etc of course. Increase your exercise levels too. Your weight gain could be due to inactivity - it's so easy to put on weight when your life is sedentary, I've experienced this myself.

Like I say though, I would think about getting checked out at the doctors if you think you are not over-eating, just to be sure it is not health related.

All the best.

Hi Ho!:seeya: and welcome to the forum. Do you feel it is because you are over eating or have a medical condition? Either way it would be good to get a once over from your doctor.
I wrote down everything I ate for a week, even the odd sweet (candy) and it was staggering what I was shoving down my gullet every day!
Please put your mind at rest now. Whatever the problem you will get a huge amount of support on here as well as your doctor. Keep in touch now

Welcome to the forums :) If your diet hasn't changed recently, perhaps you should get some blood tests done by your local doctor. Sudden weight gain could be a sign of something going a little wacky in your body. If you DO see that your eating habits have changed, or you got a new job where you move around a lot less, this is most likely the culprit. When I graduated college, I was working in the school gym 4-5 days a week. I took my career position with a company as a software developer and found I moved around a LOT less, and gained 10lbs real quick. All things to consider :)
