Questions about exercise

Hi, I'm new to working out and I'm 13 10 months years old and I have been hesitant to work out with weights because I heard that it can affect your development. I want to bulk up and then cut for definition. So here are a few questions.

Is it a good idea to start weight training at my age?

Is it a good idea to do cardiovascular exercises while bulking up?

Can you get the same or similar results if you do alternate more between
bulking and cutting as opposed to bulking for a long period of time and then
cutting for a long period of time(for example bulking for a week and cutting each week alternating, or longer periods of time such as months or years?

Is it a good idea to bulk if you want to improve your cardiovascular endurance(At my school I have to run once a week and make 8 laps(2 miles) in 20 minutes for an A.)

How do you find your calorie maintenance level?

Is protein essential to working out?

You're right to be worried about the potential problems of starting weight training at your age. However, the most disappointing problem you'll most likely encounter is a lack of progress at that age. I think you should hold off weights until you're about 15.

I always recommend calisthenics to young people because it's safer and more productive. The word is a combination of the Greek kalos (beauty) and sthenos (strength), and can mean a lot of things, but it's generally understood that calisthenics does not employ weights.

My favorite calisthenics exercises:

Pushups
Squats
Crunches
Pullups

^ The above four can be done countless different ways, and cover all your major musculature. Also, when high reps are done rapidly and/or in quick succession, the workout becomes aerobic as well.
