Education? As in school? I got good GCSE's (I'm in UK) Then I worked for myself.
5) Cheap, Good selection of free weights, Close to get to
6) Expensive, Only machines, not free weights, large amount of waster's getting in the way
7) My gym is in my room and as such I'm very happy with it.
8) I'm not a member beacuse it costs way to much and I can get a much better workout at home because I have a good bench, over 160kg of free weights and some cardio machines meaning I can do all the exercises and I don't have to waste time waiting for things to become free and I don't have travel time either.
9) No, in my experience when I have been to a gym and from what friends told me, the personal trainers don't seem to have much of a clue.
10) I don't really get what the question is asking. But no.
11) N/A

Hope I've been helpful. All the best

1. What is your current age? 21

2. Do you currently hold a membership at a fitness center? Yes

3. How many days a week do you attend your gym, if not a member how many days a week do you undergo a structured workout routine? 3

4. How experienced in fitness training and education do you consider yourself (i.e beginner, intermediate, expert)? My actual fitness levels are indicative of a beginner. Education-wise, I'd consider myself at least intermediate.

5. What are three key characteristics that would or did persuade you to join a specific gym? Functionality and quality of equipment (Olympic barbells = win); price; location.

6. What are three major "turn-offs" in choosing a specific gym to become a member? Lack of freeweights/functional equipment; inappropriate building structure (eg having a floor that can't handle weights falling on it); being women's-only.

7. Are you currently happy with the services or oppertunities that you gym provides you? Generally, yes.

8. What is one thing that you wish your gym offered you or did better? 45cm plates for lighter weights so that it's easier and safer to learn exercises such as deadlifts and power cleans at light weights.

9. If a gym provided free personal training would you participate reguardless of level of experience? I'm not sure if this is asking about my experience or the trainer's experience. I don't have much need for a PT, and in my experience most of them would train me poorly anyway (I know because I am one, and try to learn from my peers, but mostly only learn that they know how to recite information from fitness magazines) - most PT's work with beginners and try to train them like advanced lifters, minus the programming skills and understanding of correct technique. Although I'll happily have the gym-staff spot me for free. If I were going to use the services of a PT, I'd be far more interested in the quality of their experience than the quantity (plenty of PT's have been working for years but don't know much, while some are fresh out of school and know how to train someone more efficiently than their seniors).

10. If a gym offered continuing education courses in a classroom style setting would you participate? Yes.

11. If are a member of a gym, can you pinpoint one specific characteristic that sets it apart form others? The gym I go to has more squat/power racks than bench racks, and even more barbells. Plus it has weight belts and chalk.

Just want to say thank you to all that have participated thus far. Your input has been great, please keep the great feed back coming. Thank you very much.

I am pretty pleased with all my gym has.

9. If a gym provided free personal training would you participate reguardless of level of experience?
Based on levels of 'expertise' I have seen in the gym, there is no way I would train with many of the trainers at my gym.

10. If a gym offered continuing education courses in a classroom style setting would you participate?
Very likely not

It has a kids center that my kids enjoy while I lift. Also, they offer structured fitness training for children. With the childhood obesity epidemics, I am glad to see this focus in a small section of the gym. If it got in the way of the hard core lifting area, then it would have to go, but in the current setting, it works well.
