my 19 year old son- 5 foot 10, 158 lbs- very good shape, plays soccer, runs~ is home for the summer. He's decided to keep to a pretty focused workout routine for the summer. Joined the local gym- works out daily & runs usually 5+ miles. Have noticed him eating very small amounts of food & restiricting his diet. Today- after a 7mile run (50-55 minutes) he came home and wanted an egg white scramble for lunch. I think this is no where near calories & nutrition enough for him~ especially after a run/workout. After much back and forth he said he was also going to have an apple and a bagel with the omlete too. He also said since he was going to some grad parties this afternoon that he would make up the calories, etc. then. My comment was it would probably be healthier to eat something like a whole egg omlete now & watch what he ate later.... although being 19 & working out like he does... I really don't think he needs to be so restirictive. He insists this is approrpiate & he's read and/or talked with trainers, etc....
So, tell me~ am I being overly cautious or is he being overly restrictive and in danger of getting too little calories and nutrition?
