I have run several
PR- is 1:35 in Sand Diego, CA
no training--- came right out of the bar and ran it!! ha!! you do not run 13.1 miles without training.

most benefitial for me - The moments when it is just me, the earths rotation, and my pulse. Out of body!

don't remember rank or number of runners.... ALOT of them, I did not win, and I never run for that purpose. It is not a resonable idea for ME. I am an athlete, not a runner.

All athletes are runners, but not all runners are athletes.

I am 39, I am a boy.

Again, I have run at least 20 or so. A half marathon is for two things....
a t-shirt, and an extra t-shirt- if you help clean stuff up.

I like the half marathon because it is far enough that many, "MANY" won't make it, but you can completely dump yourself into it, and only be sick for a day, verses 3 or 4 days.

P.S. don't think for a minute that a 1/2 marathon is like running 1/2 of a MARATHON. they are different events all together. Completely different ball game. things get "weird" around the 20 mile mark.

tempo runs

Where did you rank? How many runners?
11th in my age group, 200th out of 600-something but I was there for my own time goals. I will probably never even place in my age group in one of those things and that will never be my motivation.

How many half-marathons have you ran and why you like them?
only 2. I like FF's reasons. I don't think I ever want to train for a marthon, and 10K's are too short, anyone can do that, halfs are perfect. They are challenging enough to keep the hot heads honest, but doable for most anyone who puts their minds to it. I like them for the finish. There's just nothing like it.

Yes, for six months
What was most beneficial to you in your training?
Training with a team (did a charity) you get lots of advise and support. It's not easy doing this alone ... you need people.

Where did you rank? How many runners?
25,000 people - not sure what my rank was but it took me about 6hrs

Training for NYC - it's a great personal challenge that requires a discipline

Yes, I have run several, but I've run more marathons.

I'd have to go through my records, but it is probably somewhere in the 75-77 minute range, I think. My first half marathon when I was in high school was exactly 90 minutes, and I ran a random out of shape/early season one last year in 82:53. I have been around 80-85 minutes at the halfway point in a few of my marathons.

Did you train?
Specifically for the half-marathon? No. Was I training for other races at the times that I ran them? Yes.

What was most beneficial to you in your training?
Diet.

Where did you rank? How many runners?
It depends on which one you mean. My most recent half marathon I was 159 of 1575, but I was not in particularly good shape for that race and was dead last on my team.

How many half-marathons have you ran and why you like them?
I've run a half dozen or so half marathons, and it is one of my favorite distances. It is long enough that not just anyone can jump up and be competitive at it, but you don't need to worry about cutting back on training the week afterwards to recover like you would with a full marathon. Since I have started running a few marathons per year, though, I haven't had as much opportunity to run the half marathons as I have.

I ran 1...

I hurt myself about 1 month before the 1/2 after running a 15k where I came in 4rth out of 9 in my age group...

I ran about 15 mile in the 3 weeks before the 1/2 marathon... started it thinking I would run the first loop (2 loops)... ran the whole thing... suffered through it... ran it in 2:20

My 2nd one will be with good training and will be next month... I expect to run right around 2 hours... if I run hard... I could probably pull off 1:55...

So far what I think has been most beneficial this time...
being 10 lbs lighter...
Running my long runs slowly... at a nice easy pace... never pushing...
Post run refueling... I think also has made a huge difference in my recover...

I'm 33 and male.

I like the 1/2 marathon because I haven't worked up to a marathon yet...
Really I don't like the 5k because I am not fast... I like the idea of watching folks drop off... I get to pass people... because I trained harder... The wow factor... it is cool to hear someone say... wow you ran 13 miles... I really like 15k but it could be that I liked it more because it is the longest distance I have ever prepared to race...

I ran one, my first and only, earlier this year. Previous to that I ran only 10Ks or 5Ks.

My time was 1:44. That would be my PR!

Definitely trained - followed pretty much the Hal Higdon method for 10 weeks.

Most beneficial was sticking to my training schedule.

I finished pretty well. 261 out of 1114 male runners.

I'm male, 41.

I definitely plan to run more half marathons. I think it's the perfect distance challenge for me - I don't see doing full marathons. I liked it because it's a proud accomplishment.
