Sport Fitness
ok, i just started on the 5-6 meals a day...i sort mines out and eat about every 2-3 hours.....i knaw this is a good way to speed up ya metabolism, but also what im tryin to do is bulk up and gain weight...so what should i be eating to bulk up, what kinds of food should i eat and what foods should i stay away from?

It doesn't matter whether you're bulking or cutting, the same rules apply:

1. Eat every 2-3 hours. That's 6-8 meals a day.
2. Avoid HFCS and refined, processed flour and anything with anything hydrogenated.
3. Eat 1-1.5g protein/lb of body weight.
4. The majority of your carbs should come from vegetables.
5. Drink 1/2-1 gallon of water a day.

To add lean muscle or bulk up, you need to have a caloric surplus. The extra calories should come from mostly from protein... not cookies :)

To find out your daily caloric intake to MAINTAIN your current weight, use this Then add about 300-400 calories (depending on your current stats and goals).

PS- HFCS means High Fructose Corn Syrup

If you are trying to gain you may want more than 5-6 meals a day. Lynn is right that you will need a calorie surplus in order to gain muscle. The body needs extra calories in order to make the new muscle. Determining the right number of calories for you is something that is VERY individualized, and there are countless factors to consider.

Lots of lean proteins from lean meats and whey, cottage cheese, whole grains, fruits, vegies and some good fats is best. Make sure your pre and post workout nutrition is spot on. That's super imporant for building muscle.
