Question about Weider's and Sublingual B

My husband used to use the Weider's brand muscle-builder protein powder from GNC and sublingual B Complex liquid for an energy boost before working out. He's starting to weight train again. He wants to know if there is anything better than Weider's and the sublingual B, or if those are still the best. Whatever protein powder or shake is best, he wants to make for sure it doesn't have caffeine or ephedra or anything else that is not natural. Does he need to eat a lot of extra protein that day before and after to get the benefit, or just before the workout?

What do you guys recommend?

Also, what do you recommend other than water for an appetite suppressant that he can eat for dinner after working out that doesn't have calories and will keep him from being hungry.

You need to eat after working out, even if you're trying to lose weight. This is the time when your body needs calories the most, just to heal. 1gram of protein / lb of body weight, and at least 50grams after a workout. Goodbrands are, but aren't limited too... ON, Cytosport, Met-Rx, MuscleTech.. I like ON, because they're good and not overpriced.

I personally like MRM Pumped Whey. I also really like the new Syntha-6 from BSN. But yeah...Cytosport, ON, Iron Tek are all really good proteins. He can also check out and make his own custom blend.

I kinda' differ on how much protein you need post-workout from Mreik; this is not to say he's wrong, just our opinion is different. I think your husband should just make sure he's eaten something 2-3 hours before working out, have 20-30 grams of protein and 40-60 grams carbs post-workout and then eat an hour later.

I don't know off hand any protein powders that have caffeine or ephedra in them. A lot of companies are shying away from making ephedra products cause they're afraid they'll ban it again and they'll lose out money. By the way, ephedra from the Ma Huang plant is natural.

The sublingual B that I really like is from a company called Superior Source but typically most sublingual Bs are pretty good.

Follow-up Question

ok. My husband found out they aren't making the Weider's protein powder any more. He's got the sublingual B. However, he wants to know if anyone knows anything about Muscle Milk. Is that good for a good muscle builder? Also, it says to take 2 scoops before working out and 2 scoops after. He wants to know if since it's so expensive if taking 1 scoop before working out and a half scoop after working out is still giving him a benefit for building muscle, or if he should swallow the price and go ahead and take the full amount.

Any help would be appreciated. I don't need to know personal preference. I need to know fact.

My body is different than yours, and your husbands, and evo's.. So something that works great for me, might not work for you or evo at all, and vice versa. Although our numbers differ, the idea is the same. You need protein after you work out and a steady supply throughout the day. No one NEEDS any sort of powder or anything, it just makes it easier to get the proper nutrition. I would look into some of the brands evo mentioned as cytosport musclemilk is expensive, and not geared for people trying to lose weight as it is high in fat and calories..
