Question about this forum...

Just have a quick question that is not meant to offend -

Are the professionals here nutritionists or professional trainers? Both are great, just was wondering. Thanks!!!

Well "professional" is hard to define. THeres a personal trainer or two on here, yes. Theres also many people who have lost TONS of weight and understands what it takes to get to your goal.

Who here has identified themselves as a "professional"?

As Korrie said, there are lots of different kinds of people here. Some are professional trainers. There is one professional nutritionist I believe. But most of us will tell you that we're not pros, just people who have lost a lot of weight and done our research.

Most "professional trainers" aren't worth their weight in poop.

Seriously.

And before I went to a nutritionist, I'd see a dietitian. Even then, chances of getting "text book" advice is very likely.

I don't know of anyone claiming to be a professional, but in the forum snippet it says that this forum is "...an attempt to bring in the professionals." Just wondering who they were, if they were here.

As for personal trainers, well, I must agree with Steve. As for the Nutritionist versus the dietician, it really depends on what you need. If you have a specific medical condition that requires certain nutrients or electrolytes, then seeing a nutritionist would be your best bet.

Thanks for all the replies!

Nope. We had a couple of "professional trainers" who were mods here and they thought it would be a good idea to start this forum. I didn't agree. But here it lies and said "professional trainers" are no longer part of the community.

Note. I get paid to help people reach their fitness/physique/health goals.

Care to explain that rationale?

I've run into a few different individuals on this forum that have nutrition related degrees or those that are personal trainers. Everyone has really good advice on the forum, professional or not. Personal experience in my opinion is really the best but if youre looking for more sound advice I reccommend doing a little personal research as well.

In this life - it is not always the best qualified of people that give the best quality of advice. The ability to communicate effectively with the audience and put things in terms that they understand is of great value too.

I have had a lot of excellent advice on this forum.

I have also seen some people that claim to be well qualified give advice that I thought was superficial and not a great deal of help.

There is much to be said for Mad4Chillas suggestion to do some personal research - looking for as good an internet source as you can find. Having said that - it makes a lot of sense to use things that you see on the forum as a springboard for that research.

I sometimes make suggestions - and can state here and now that my own weight loss is my only relevant experience. All my qualifications are in a totally different field.
