I'm sure this will be a weird question, but...
There's a small DDR community where I live, and we often go to the arcade and play the game - hard.
For a standard song (once we've warmed up), we're hitting upwards of 13 arrows per second. Naturally, this gives us quite the workout.
Now recently, I've noticed something about my body. If I just keep on pushing and pushing, something in me physically changes. This occurs when I play really difficult songs, where over the course of the song (2-8mins) takes me from fine to barely able to stand.
Prior to this change, difficult songs will tire me out, leaving me gasping for air.
After this change, I notice:
- I can move my feet faster than in any other state (About 10% faster)
- My stamina/endurance becomes insane; songs that I barely had it in me to pass, I'm suddenly having the ability to "beast" the entire thing, achieving over 99% score (Up from 92-94%. Note, the thing keeping me at 92-94% is endurance, not rhythmic accuracy)
- I start to feel really great
- I become really red in the face
- My legs START to become painful (At the beginning of this state, they're fine, but once in it, if I continue, it slowly starts to hurt. Not knowing what this state is yet, I haven't tried pushing it, for fear of damaging my body)
- I recover really fast, allowing me to play difficult songs back-to-back, without breaks
Many of the people here are much more knowledgeable about fitness than I am. I'm sure this change isn't unique to me, and is definitely not unique to DDR.
If anyone here is familiar with this, I would like to know more about it.
- Why does it happen?
- Why does it activate when I really push myself?
- How does my body achieve this level of ability? (Aka, why couldn't it before?)
- What happens if I ignore pain, and continue pushing?
- (Plus anything else you'd like to mention; I'm all ears)
