Question about Stomach Fat

Is it possible for someone to never be able to lose stomach fat or for it to take a ridiculous long time? Could there be any medical or genetic causes?

Sometimes, stomach fat is associated with insulin resistance, for example, if you have PCOS or if you are diabetic.

Have you been to your doctor to get checked out recently? Do you have other symptoms of insulin resistance?

It's certainly possible for it to take a ridiculously long time..for a lot of people it's usually the last and hardest place to lose weight from (which sucks because for a lot of people it's the first place they put on weight too).
As for genetics being a cause..possible but I'd doubt it..more likely it's your diet/exercise

Most women lose stomach fat last. If it's the first place you gain, it'll be the last to go. (Sorry, I know that's not great news.)

Some people who are more sensitive to carbs do find that they lose bloat in their stomachs when they cut back on carbs or switch their diets from simple carbs to complex ones.

I'd say keep working at the steady, healthy weight loss and getting proper exercise and see what that does.

No everybody and anybody can lose their belly fat. Some people are different then others, so harder work may be needed. You may also need to try different types of diets as well, because some may work better for you then others. I highly recommend Turbulence Training for your exercise though. It is the fastest way out there to burn fat. It is seriously an intense workout!

I've had a belly for over 10 years and I hate it. It makes me look like I'm pregnant. Recently, though it's been starting to shrink and it's because of how I'm exercising and the fact that I reduced the amount of fat I eat everyday. I was eating over 2 times the amount of fat the body needs without realizing it and since the body must burn the fat you eat each day before it begins to attack the body fat you've stored you gotta eat less fat and exercise for that stubborn belly fat to burn away. So far I've lost and inch and a half around my stomach in 2 weeks by how I exercise - so it can be done! I know I felt like I would never get rid of it! So you might want to take a look at some of the exercises I do. I exercise for 1 hour per day and after 2 weeks I've lost 19 inches overall on my body!

Hope that gives you a boost!

I want to point out that this is not a matter of fat, this is a matter of calories.

If you eat 0 fat, you can still not lose any body fat - because you're getting enough calories from other sources. That's part of why the whole trend of calling something low fat and then throwing extra HFCS into it didn't work so well.

So to rephrase more accurately - "Since the body must burn all the calories you eat before it begins to burn calories from stored fat, you must eat fewer calories than you burn."

(I say this as someone who lost 70 lbs without restricting fat. Avocados and olive oil are an important part of my nutritional plan!)

Thank you for the more accurate statement - that's what I intended to say. Also avocados are a great healthy source of fat and enjoy eating those.

However, I disagree that it is not a "matter of fat" - if we are eating more than the recommended daily intake of fat of 50 grams per day, then of course that is going to impact our level of fat in our body, since as Dr. Vash says "Anything eaten in excess will store as fat." pg. 22 of "The Fat to Muscle Diet" - I highly recommend reading this book, it's chocked full of information on fat that really opened my eyes, and you can buy a cheap used copy from amazon.

Well, I still have days when I eat over 50g of fat (although not every day), but I try to keep under 20g saturated. And I brought my LDL cholesterol down 60 points - from high to normal. I've also lost body fat while doing so. Truth told, eating more vegetables and fiber has had a far greater impact on my cholesterol than when I tried a low fat diet.

I know different people's systems work differently - that's why I'm pointing out that for me, restricting fat did nothing, but incorporating healthy vegetables, legumes, and focusing on getting my fats from healthier sources had a bigger impact.

Well, it is a way, but not necessarily the best way. When you awaken, your body is in a fasting metabolic state and burning fewer calories per unit of time than usual. Consuming some food will immediately increase your metabolic rate.

Nope, sorry, thanks for playing. :)

Your metabolism doesn't adapt that fast.

Well, you have to keep in mind that everybody's body is different and that we all lose fat in different ways, at different rates and in different places. If you're having a hard time losing fat in your stomach, don't think that you CAN'T do it...just remember that it might take longer for you, when compared to other people. Just eat right and exercise and give it some time. It's not going to happen overnight, you know? Yeeeeeah, you know.
