Question about resting between workouts

Hi everyone,
I'm still fairly new to body building so my question may seem a little silly. I know a big problem with beginners is overtraining, so I only weight lift every other day, giving a day of rest to the upper body and do cardio work instead.

However recently I've been going with bigger weights, I know the formula is bigger weights/less reps, however today is weight lift day and my upper body still feels a little sore (not too much, just slightly sore) from lifting 2 days ago.

Soreness means muscle rips, which means they still need to rebuild.. so should I be waiting another day to continue lifting?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

No, as soon as you hit the gym the soreness will go away when you'll be working out. Make sure you have a good warm up before you start your heavy lifting. Soreness is something that you have to get used to, it becomes less and less with every visit to the gym. If you decide not to go the soreness will get worse believe it or not. Don't worry, follow your program, 2 days are more than enough for your body to recover.

Yeah its called Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness or DOMS for short. Make sure your form is good (start light and get form correct first before adding weight).

DOMS will go away by itself after about 1 week. I think there is a psychological component that working out while experiencing doms (which is a muscle soreness and not tendon soreness or any other pain that SHOULD NOT be "worked through") makes one temporarily forget the pain but I wouldn't say working out will make doms less painful or make the soreness go away faster.

I've found getting plenty of protein in me after a workout and bit more the next morning helps reduce it.
