Sport question about post workout nutrition

I read this great article a couple days ago:
Testosterone Nation - Solving The Post-Workout Puzzle - Part 2

I am going to start bulking this summer but my situation will be hard to follow post workout nutrition. I am going to have a desk job from 8-5. I plan to workout about 3 times a week. I am going to get home from my job around 5:30 each day and be pretty damn hungry, so i'll have supper. I'll let my food digest until around 6:30-7 then go workout. Since I'll already have most of the nutrients needed for post workout nutrition will it be ok that I have eaten the nutrients before I workout intead of after??? Or does my body need to have it after I workout. Or can my body just take what is already there?

No...that's not the way it works. You ALWAYS need post workout nutrition...after you work out. Always.

argh, so what do you suggest I do? Just eat something light before I workout then have a big supper? That's gonna make it very hard to keep committed to the gym.

I'm in the same boat, but I have adapted. Before I run or workout, i have something small that will hold me over. A small can of tuna, a bowl of healthy choice soup or some wheat crackers with peanut butter on them. I'm not saying this is the healthiest, but if you intake a small amount calories before hand, you wont be as hungry afterwards. I just stick to a shake or a chicken breast post workout.

We're suppose to have more than just a shake or chicken breast post workout correct? What would be an example of a good post workout meal?

Well if dinner or possibly lunch is your post meal then these two suggestions would work great.

Whole wheat pasta(with good sauce) and chicken mixed in. And at least two good servings of veggies.

Your choice of lean meat, Sweet potatoes, and again two good servings of veggies.

Pineapple is a great choice for fruit (if you choose to have a fruit) because of its Bromelian content which will greatly aid in digestion.

Drink One glass of pure OJ with pulp/or milk (OJ is the better of the two) Then any further liquids should be water.

another question

I read somewhere that the best time of day to have carbs is right after your workout, but why is it that everyone says you should have a protein shake afterwards, since they are so low in carbs?

a protein shake with simple carbs, ie dextrose, maltodextrin, etc...

again

but, for example, i use ON, which only has 4g of carbs I think. Should I be adding more carbs to the shake?

Hmm, this may be a little late.... I usually eat a meal, say dinner, wait an hour or two then exercise. Afterwards I do a PB&J (all natural pb and organic j), fruit, or organic HFCS free fig bars. The meal doesn't have to be big, it just needs to help replenish some of what you lost.

is this good

Hows this? I just worked out and made a smoothie with one scoop of ON protein powder and a banana, is that a good mix of protein and carbs?

yes. a product which also works very well is Vitargo (CGL) by Nutrex. I got this because I couldn't find dex/malto ANYWHERE by me---so I did some research, and Vitargo was next on the list. Works amazingly thus far

what kind of foods would be good to be those simple sugars from?

They are similar to sugars (composition is a different though I believe), just simple sugars..powder form. Dextrose and maltodextrin are just white powder...simple sugars...they come in bags...like sugar. Use the search function or a simple google search too, this comes up quite a bit and is easy to find.

Silent, thanks for getting to those, I had forgotten to give the details in my previous response it seems
