Sport Question about liquid calories

Sport Fitness
If I were to say, drink 3 cups of orange juice, milk or lemonade, would my body take in all the calories? Liquid passes through the digestive system much faster than solid food, which makes sense, though if I just drank a bunch of liquid would I be getting all the benifets?

(I keep eating all my yummy food, so I was wanting to get more liquid calories in order to save it.)

Youd body actually obtains calories from liquid alot faster then calories from solid foods. Things like orange juice, lemonade and even milk are easy for the body to digest- or easier then proper food. This can lead to a high blood sugar level and then when the calories are gone, a blood sugar level drop and you are left feeling hungrier then you actually are. Not a good idea if your trying to lose weight!

Milk I'd say is a slight exeption as it has some protein within it. This means it takes slightly longer to break down, is slightly more food like in that respect. If your struggling with an after gym drink, milk would be a good idea.

Whats wrong with plain water by the way? if its the taste try a little freshly squeezed lemon or mix 50-50 with orange juice. Not as low cal as plain water but better then a sugar overload.

are you trying to get more calories in through liquids because you just can't handle that much solid food?

i would opt for a protein shake over juice, simply because of all those simple sugar carbs and lack of fiber...better to just eat an orange instead and a little 20g protein shake, maybe even toss in 5g of fibersure.

Your body will get the calories, but I don't quite understand what you're wanting to do. Are you trying to replace food with milk and orange juice to save food?

It's really a poor idea. You don't just need calories, you need nutrition. And replacing food with sugary juice and milk and lemonaide is going to make you very unhealthy. I usually suggest not getting any of your calories from liquids at all, unless a moderate amount of milk, because it can be healthy.

I totally agree with that the calories not only thing you need you have to get the nutrition for strength and energy..

Well, I posted this wrong, I was bassicaly trying to ask if liquid calories are all absorbed. I never intended to replace food with orange juice.

Just because it's a liquid and processes faster through the digestive system doesn't mean that you're not still taking in all the calories and contents listed on the back of the product.

Additionally, if it's a beverage high in simple carbs, you end up getting a fairly high blood sugar spike. It's part of the reason that fruit juices are specifically prescribed as part of a diabetic's tool kit in response to low blood sugar. As others have stated, the addition of protein into the equation helps the body to better regulate all of that.

Personally I only drink water and milk. You get enough of that sugar from things you don't even realize.

I'm not sure why you quoted my post when replying, it really doesn't address a single thing I said. Are you pro drinking liquid to cut down on how much you spend on food? Otherwise, I have no idea what the point of your post was.

Meant to quote the OP, sorry about that. I am not pro-liquid diet though... just merely trying to point out to the OP that even in a liquid like juice there is still a high amount of calories that the body absorbs.
