I've been a vegetarian for about 3 years, but since starting my diet I've been considering eating chicken again, to be more balanced. I just want some other inputs on whether this is a healthy choice, or if I should stick with vegetarianism. (lean chicken, and never fried btw)

i could never live without meats myself -I just like the taste too much...

but if you are getting enough protein in your diet, then I'm not sure there' any reason to switch from a vegetarian diet... What's enough protein for you - that I'm not sure about

Well if you want to stick to being a vegetarian there are plenty of good sources of protein. Legumes, soy, soy protein supplements, whey protein supplements (a milk based product, but if you're not a vegan it should be within your diet). Those are just a few alternatives.

As Mal suggested, as long as you are thoughtful about your diet, you should be able to find everything that you need from a vegetarian diet.

However, speaking as an omnivore myself (who loves meat), I think that chicken is sometimes over-rated. Sure, poultry (skinless) white meat is lean and good protein, but red meat can also be nutritious - it depends on quality. Wild animal meat is probably the highest quality, followed by grass fed organic animal meat.

...and why not fish? Fish is lean and can be rich in good oils.

This is a really personal decision that is up to you to make. If you decide to eat meat, chicken is obviously a wise choice. Or fish.

I respect vegetarians who take the time and care enough to make sure they supplement their meatless diets to optimize health. Protein is a very important nutrient, that most vegetarians I know, neglect.

And there is a difference between complete and incomplete proteins.
