Question about body weight and effects on running

If one were to put on about 15 pounds of muscle over the course of a year, would it hinder their running times significantly?

I'm 5'10 130 pounds, and I'm wondering if my times would suffer significantly if I bulked up to 145 pounds.

I think in your case, it will be fine. As long as your not bulking up to extremes, I don't think you have to worry.

However, do note that you can't be both: a fast runner, and a body builder. You have to be one or the other.

It depends a lot on your over all body structure, the length of your legs, your bone structure, etc., but i am 5'10" as well and I didn't notice any difference until I went over about 170 pounds. In fact, I think for shorter distances (<10K?) the extra muscle (if it is all muscle) and associated additional lung, heart and and blood vessel capacity that go along with it, would actually make you faster. I am pretty sure it did for me. Now, if you add an additional 10 or 20 pounds of fat that will surely slow you down, big time!
