Q about Energy Bars/Drinks before workout

I am not looking to get big, just more tone (I'm a gal).

I usually grab a granola bar (like Quaker chewy raisin bar or those Cheerio Bars) just because I get so dang hungry during my workout. then i have a 1/2 turkey and cheese sandwich and cup of coffee about 1 1/2 hrs post-workout when I am hungry again.

Would it be better for a gal who is not trying to gain weight but just tone muscle to eat one of those high cal, protein energy things or is my supermarket chewy granola bar alright?

well im not sure if you eat the bar before or after your workout.. but if it's after i would reccomend a protein shake (bar if you must) simply to rebuild your muscles quicker..

and if i remember correctly (from the other post) you work out daily, so your protein intake should be high no matter your goals (tone, tighten, bulk).. goog luck!

you shouldnt work out daily, your body needs at least 24 hours of rest between work outs, so the muscles can grow, they only grow while resting. as for those super expensive energy bars for work outs i dont think you need them, i only time i have them is when i have a football game and i know im gonna be playing the whole game, they not really worth the price if all your doing is using it for a trip to the gym, if the granola bar works for you keep doing it.

i disgaree :) I think that a protein bar would be better if the option is protein bar v. quaker granola....the reason being this...the granola has NO protein and TONS of sugar...the bar (depending) has at least 15g. protein and less sugar...

I eat a 220 calories, 4.g fat, 17g protein, 2 g. fiber bar before I workout. I know it takes longer to digest (i eat about 15 mintues before workout...bad for me but because of my time schedule i eat in teh car on the way to the gym) this really works for me and is better then nothing for my high intensity workouts...

anyway back to the topic on hand...if those are your choices i would say go with teh protein bar...you will burn it off durig your wokrout no problem...it will fill you up better and longer and give you the protein and carbs you need...

Hope this helps, id be curious to hera other opinions...

last thought...they do range about 1.50-2$ a bar so yeah the price is high but if that doesnt matter to you then...whats teh deal?
