Punching bag

Is hitting the punching bag a good form of aerobic excercise, as long as im kinda jumpin around. It raises my heart rate a lot and that is what is going to ultimately make me lose fat, right?

How long should i do it / how many days a week.
 
Is that all you have? Some skipping rope as well as some dumbbells would be ideal. Suppose you could punch the bag for an hour daily and do some joggin.
