pulled muscle, can't run.

I pulled a muscle in my upper left calf about two weeks ago (this is coming of of tendonitis in my right achilles, which has cleared up). I took about a week off, and it felt fine. I went of a run that was probably too much (7 miles). the next day the pulled muscle felt like a nail in my calf. Now, one week later, it isn't nearly as painful, but it is lingering. I haven't been able to work out at all.

Is there anything I can do to speed up the healing process? As of right now, I'm just taking it easy, and simply not working out. But the weather is getting nice and I really want to get well quick so I can run outside. Anything I should be doing to help it along?

Thanks.

pulled muscles are generally slow to heal

i guess you could apply some hot water packs or apply some muscle pain ointments

you're better off waiting for a few day to completely heal up u calves
:)

thanks guys. based on what i've read on the net, i have been stretching lightly, messaging, and taking it easy in general. looks like it is going to take a while to heal, but i think it feels a little better. i'm super bummed about not being able to run, but what can you do.

thanks.

If you have the means, I'd get a massage from a massage therapist (anywhere from $45-90), especially one who works with sports. Drink A TON of water. You might also take L-Glutamine supplements (I mix it with OJ or water or in protein shakes) to help repair the muscle faster. Keep your leg moving, but don't run. Do longer, slower walks and continue to stretch. You could also try self myo-fascial release (rolling the back of it on a foam roller). Make sure to apply heat to relax the muscle--this will make it easier to massage. Eat well!

The only recipe for injury is to rest, but keep that part of your body circulating and repairing.
