Hey!

I'm just wondering if anyone here knows the calorie content of a box of Publix Sushi. I can't imagine it would be too high--I read on calorie count that 12 pieces of sushi is about 450 calories. This wasn't publix sushi so I just wanted to make sure if that was accurate. Also, when picking out sushi which is the best kind to choose?

the biggest amount of calories in sushi is from the rice... so sashimi is probably a better option.,

Avoid any sushi that's deep fried (like the spider rolls -deep fried soft shell crab) or the tempura roll (deep fried shrimp) - eel -while insanely good -isn't a low calorie choice either.

Sushi is pretty standard when it comes to calories - if youo jsut search on sushi nutrition you'll find close enoughs..

The prefab sushi I can get is all California rolls (so avocado, which is good for you but calorically dense, and fake crab, which is low in protein and high in carbs compared to real fish), spicy rolls (mayo-based binder), and cucumber rolls (I don't like cucumber).

has nutritional information for various rolls - figure 6 or 8 pieces to a roll.

I get the nigiri assortment when I can - just fish & rice.

I thought sushi meant raw fish?? How is it sushi if it's been deep fried?
most anythign wrapped in nori and rice is considered sushi...

sushi bars have all sorts of fancy rolls on their menus - including the fake crab (which is cooked) and other stuffs...

not quite as delicious as yellowtail, tuna, and other stuff... but it has an audience

sashimi is the raw fish and only the fish (though the eel is cooked)

Thats what a lot of people think. There plenty of types of cooked "sushi" though. In Japan the term sushi actually refers to the rice. I certain type of rice and the way it is prepared. As usual we get it all mixed up in the states.

They also have rice-less 'sushi' that is wrapped in hollowed out cucumber or soy paper.
