I've been doing some research on cleansing treatments and looking into some natural products that will aid me in my quest to better health. I came across something called, psyllium husk. It's some kind of fibre consumed that aids the elimination or waste in the colon. What better way to cleanse my body than my colon itself! I mean that is where all the waste and toxins in your body is stored, is it not? I went to the GNC yesterday and bought myself a bottle of "Natural Brand," 100% psyllium husk. I hope it works. Have any of you tried it? Will it really clean out all the waste and toxins that have been hiding in my colon? I want to know about other people's experience using psyllium husk. Thank you.:blush5:

Psyllium or psyllium husk is the standard ingredient in most over-the-counter fiber supplements - Metamucil, Benefiber, etc. There's really no need to pay a premium to buy it from GNC. And it doesn't have any magical properties. :)

NO, it doesn't "clean out toxins". There is nothing that has magical properties to "clean out toxins" from your colon. There are no toxins "hiding" in yoru colon - that's a marketing myth to try to get you to spend money on voodoo garbage.

Eat healthy. Get enough fiber - from good natural sources. If you want to take something like Metamucil to help move things along, that's fine. I take Benefiber every day.

But psyllium husk is nothing new, it's no magic cure, and spending a premium for it is, IMO, silly.

It's just a source of fibre.

While you need sufficient fibre in your diet, both soluble and insoluble, it doesn't magically 'cleanse' you.

Soluble fibre helps regulate your blood sugar and can help lower your ldl cholesterol level.

Insoluble fibre promotes regularity and can reduce or ease constipation.

In short - yes, in a sense it does help remove toxins and waste from your colon, but only by making it easier to poop.

All ... as a long time fibre guy ... the best thing I've found on the market is Konsyl. It's not cheap ($15), but it's got no sugar, 6g fibre, and low carbs. It also dissolves well in juice or crystal light ... hope that helps ..
