Sport Protien Bars

Sport Fitness
i went to the mall yesterday and i saw this store full of protien bars and shakes and pills and everything.. now i dont want to take any pills really, id rather stay away from all that... but as for protien bars.. is there a really good brand or somthing to get? is it best to get these bars full of protien and very little calories and next to no fat or what should i be looking for with these bars?

certain bars differ from one another some bars have higher protein with lower carbs or lower protein or more carbs then one another. either way they have high amounts of protein. my personal favorites are the detours/uturns from designer whey or power bar protein plus. another thing you have to realize is meal replacement bars such trioplex metrx or myoplex. for a pre/post workout meal the trioplex bar is in my opinion the best. myoplex is good for a high protein snack. of course thats just in my opinion. so to answer your question go for it by the protein bars or drinks use them if you really need them. its up to you which one to buy for example check the nutritional info or the ingrediants because sometimes theyll make some with HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) or some other unhealthy particles that might help you out

Just remember they call them supplements for a reason my friend because they supplement (in other words help or enhance) your diet. so therefore you cant eat nothing but twinkees and expect for them to work

well i already drink whey protien shakes after i work out.. but i want to get these protien bars too... for like eating at breakfast and during the day..

first off, whole food, like steak and potatoes, will kick a protein bar's ass any day of the week.

Now, if you're gonna be on an airplane for 8 hours over the ocean...protein bars have their place.

They are CONVENIENCE supplments...not necessary at all...and frankly some of them are worse for you than eating a stick of butter (ok...maybe not that bad..but there are plenty of bars loaded with sugar, saturated fat, trans fat, and very little usable protein)

As was already stated, supplements are meant to pick up where the normal diet leaves off. You'd be far better off buying some Gladware and just prepping meals in advance. Cheaper too.

I find that they are a bit of a rip off, if you have the money, and can afford a lot of them - go for it. What I like to do (If I have some) is eat one before I work out, than have a protein shake after. The shake is easier to break down, and can quickly be used to rebuild muscle tissue. The bar will have time to break down, and digest since you had it before your workout.

Thats what I see is best...

Do I know of any brand? No. All you need to do is look on the package of them, and you'll see which are the best brands. By the nutritional value, that they must legally post.

so basiclaly if i drink a protien shake after i lift weights weight time and i eat regular food then i dont need protien bars?

ok... if i eat lots of apples and bananas thats good enough right? lol

What? Fruit has no protein at all. Oh, wait, haha I just saw the "lol." You were just joking right, my bad...

I eat protein bars for convenience as you can grab them as a good snack anytime. I make my own from nat PB, honey, oats, whey protein & egg whites. Saves me a fortune!

thats whats up I sometimes prepare a tuna, chicken, or turkey sandwhich on 100% whole wheat bread therfore and sometimes will put one tablespoon of smart balance peanut butter on the bread or have almonds with the sandwhich so therefore i get my complex carbs, my protein, and essential fatty acds but bringing the protein shakes is good for you and if you feel you need t grab a quick meal replacement bar go for the triloplex because it has all three of those macronutrients

I like Detour Peanut butter bars, they are good for when you are on the run or like now when I dont have a set schedule, I can just grab one for later. Check the healthy recipe section's "muscle building meals" to see tons of recipes to make your own!

Buy em by the box and they are about 1.25 a piece, but buy them at the store and you'll spend $3+. Look around the net for them. I have purchased from and they have reasonable prices (and if they dont, you can use anyone else's price).

hey while we're on the subject are those south beach high protein cerel bars any good because of the fact that I have had some a few times before and want to know if its a good idea to keep hhaving them

Avoid protein bars if you can. Not just because whole food is better, but because the ones they sell in stores are bad for you. I've yet to see one without tons of sugar (or sugar alcohols) or an unhealthy amount of saturated fat. Don't be surprised if a couple of sugar alcohol loaded protein bars leave you on the toilet for the day.
