Protein

Hey,
I am was just wondering how often I should drink my protein shake? LIke once when I get up and then when I finish my workout later? I am not trying to gain a ton of muscle, as I am trying to lose weight. I just want to build my muscle now so when I do get down to my target weight I will have something to show for it...

If you're trying to lose weight, make the body work and eat solid food.

could drink one every 3 hours, just make sure , everytime u eat , ( should be around 5 or 6 times a day) that u get 40 grams of protein. , so it dont matter when u drink it, i have about 6 a day hehe :)

i thought protein shakes put weight on? im mixed up

protein shakes do nothing other than provide your body with protein. you need a certain amount of protein each day to meet macronutrient requirements. some people find it hard to get their daily requirement through solid foods, so they supplement it with shakes cause they are easy. Just get a majority of your daily protein from solid foods.

40g of protein per meal is a bit of a sweeping statement. it depends mostly on how many calories that person has per day and what their goals are. 240g of protein a day is much more than what a small person looking to lose weight would need. in fact, less than half that could be adequate.

and why do you drink so many shakes? what's wrong with proper food? i don't think 6 shakes a day is a good way to go about it.

taylor - it depends how much protein you are already getting in your diet. if, like me, you find it difficult to eat enough protein then a drink in the morning and after workout (like you say) would be the best times to supplement. i usually just have one after working out tho and get the rest of my protein from food.
