Sport Protein

Evening all.
I think I am doing pretty well with these 5-6 meals a day, I feel like I am eating too much, but managing to stay within my alloted calories. My only concern is that my protein is not high enough.
For the last 3 days it has been, 73g, 77g and 101g. As I am 170lbs I should be having alot more than I am.
Do you guys recomend whey protein drinks?
If so are they all much of a muchness or should I look for something specific?
Thanks all.

Hi there,
nothing wrong with a scoop of whey if you're having trouble getting all your protein in. Some good wheys are GNC brand or Optimum Nutrition. My personal favorite is GNC chocolate mega whey. Have some in a big glass of water with a piece of fruit and you've got a decent meal.

I recently got some Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein and it seems to be pretty good. The taste is great. I'm wondering about the consistency of it though. I used the recommended 6 to 8 ounces of liquid per scoop and its more like chocolate milk or flavored water rather than a shake...anyone know how I can get it to a thicker shake without adding a ton of scoops to a small amount of liquid? Or is it supposed to be this way? Thanks.

What if you dont want to use any kind of supplement and i weigh 270 can I reach my goal with protien at all or just get as much in or atleast about 150? any reccomendations

What are your goals? To drop fat? To increase muscle size? Are you male/female?

1-2 grams per body weight (some say per pound of lean muscle mass) is the max amount of protein one should have. How much you should have depends on your goals. I would not go much lower than 1g per pound of body weight though. I just hesitate to say something more specific because of your current weight. That's why I asked some questions :)

Want to lose weight, and gain muscle heh.. Not so much of gain muscle tho. If i can lose weight while maintaning my muscle that would be the ultimate goal. I am male, used to do 30-40 mins aerobic during the good tempatures now I dont do much dont really like getting on treadmills and bikes are alright but I dont know if bikes do any good. I can bench 255 1rm so a decent upper body str, I do lounges for my legs and thats about it. I lift 3 times a week for sure, no aerobics :(

I would look into how many calories per day you need to sustain your weight. Then decrease it by 500 calories per day. Then I would create a menu where you are having 5-6 meals each day, 2-3 hours a part, and a carb and protein with each meal. This should get you to the right portions.

Your strength training and cardio needs to see some improvement. Each muscle should be worked 1-3 times per week and cardio is just as essential to losing body fat. There are tons of posts on this forum about how to melt body fat. :)

Idea

Whey protein - actually good for you and I don't think that its really considered a supplement. It is like Vitamins, you take vitamins because you are not getting enough nutrients in your daily diet, so you take a multi -vitamin.The same thing with Whey protein-

Whey is a natural dairy protein that is derived from the cheese making process. Most commercial whey supplements are derived from cow’s milk, which is comprised of 6.25% protein: 20% in the form of whey. Whey protein supplements utilize the concentrated protein, eliminating the lactose and milk fat making it a remarkable source of protein.

Whey is a complete protein, meaning it contains all essential amino acids, which are vital to your metabolism, and to making your body function properly for good health. Whey also boasts the highest concentrations of branched chain amino acids (BCAA’s) found in nature. Branched chain amino acids are an important source of energy during exercise and play a key role in protein synthesis.

Whey protein, when properly processed has the highest biological value of all proteins. Biological value relates to how much of the protein consumed is actually absorbed, retained and used by your body. More specifically, biological value is the measure used to rate protein quality through nitrogen retention. The higher the quality of protein, the more nitrogen is absorbed and retained by your body.

Bought some whey, package says to consume immediately before or after workout. Is this the basic recommendation - is it "a waste" if I drink some in the morning but don't work out until after work?

Funnily enough I had a friend round today who is really clued up on fitness and he said its best to have one immediatelly after training. But I think you can have them as meal replacements aswell. maybe they give the best benefits straight after training??

Read on the info...

I think you get the same benefit, unless it has other stuff in it. ;) Just check out the web site, anything you wanna know is there!
