protein while cutting?

Should I still continue to use protein while trying to cut weight? Im assuming it will help maintain the muscle and since i still lift in addition to cardio, I figure it would help me stay strong. Each serving has about 150 cals and about 25 of those are from fat. 30g of protein per serving about 3 times a day. Is this going to help or hurt my weight loss? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Protein at cutting time is very important.

While cutting, it is especially important to keep this up otherwise your body might start turning to it's protein sources for energy which could result in a loss of muscle tissue.

Concentrate on getting lean sources at every meal in order to balance your blood sugar levels and promote a higher satiety level. Before bed, you want to try and include a casein protein source as this will release into the bloodstream slower, thus providing you with a steady supply of amino acids for your body to feed off of over night. Cottage cheese is probably the best option here.

I have cottage cheese almost every night, but I'm not cutting...anyway, to answer the question, yes it's important.

And although you do need fat in your diet, the amount of fat in that particular protein is pretty high. You can buy cleaner types, if you want.

thanks for input. I actually thought 25cals from fat was pretty decent. I only got a 3pound container so Ill look for the cleaner stuff in a couple weeks.

Protein FTW :) At the moment im using an SIS protein shake but I was just testing protein shakes. Soon I will be buying a maximuscle protein shake.

Yes use a quality whey or egg protein without any artificial sweeteners or sugars added. These will halt your fat loss.

Good luck.

IMO totally unsweetened protein tastes like crap.

I'd suggest a whey blend, with egg and casein protein plus whey. fake sweetners are generally ok in moderation.

Sucralose does not cause an insulin reaction so it does not halt fat loss.

Nitrean is my whey blend protein of choice.

I usually up my protein, lower my carbs, and lift heavy with low reps when I want to get cut.

And, I agree. I too believe that protein develops into a different line of importance, when dieting to lose tissue, and believe a rather careful consideration needs to be given to assist in staving of muscle loss (as much as possible), while "working with" carbohydrate consumption to tweak another macro nutrient variant into the fat loss equation along side working with a calorie deficit. The protein importance works in reducing the muscle loss effects (as much as possible), while the carbohydrate variant assists in adding in an extra potential fat loss kick, that can be deadly along side a calorie deficit.

Malkore ROCKS. :)

Best wishes
