Hey,
I currently use soy protein made by herbalife and i was wondering what whey protein is and how it is different to soy and its advantages/disadvntages are?
Soy was originally meant as a plant fertilizer and not meant for human consumption. Typically when it's eaten in larger quantities, it's eaten after it's been fermented.
Whey is derived from casein (milk/dairy). Whey has a better biological value, I think it's in the 150's or 160's, at least for isolates, which means that your body can use what it is being fed as best as possible.
can someone tell me can a person who is lactose intolerant drink whey protein? ive been told that it doesn't matter because something to do with the way its isolated makes it ok...
depends. some whey proteins are cheap, and full of lactose.
others are not.
the label should clearly state if its lactose free or not. A lot of them are now safe, but 4 years ago, you had to pay top dollar for Isopure to get somethign that wasn't full of lactose.
I love the whey protein - doesn't bother my stomach when I workout right after it, seems even more delicious after the workout. Guess I'm lucky I like the taste. Scared to change brands, either because of worse flavor, or, yikes, EFFECTS!
When I was a swimmer, we used to call that Jet Propulsion. Oh course, underwater nothing stinks.
