Sport protein shakes

what is the best kind of protien to buy for protein shakes, i know there is whey and soy, and possibly a few others. i'm trying to shed weight and need more protein in my diet, but i don't know what is the best to eat/drink.

From what I know, whey is by far more popular. From what I've gathered, some have said Whey is much better than soy, and others say they're equally good.

I recommend buying some whey powder on Amazon or a nutritional site and making a shake with skim/1% milk or water whenever you could use a boost of protein and you don't have convenient access to high protein foods (and right after working out).

if it's just to add a little more protein to your diet then either. personally i'd recommend whey. it's cheaper, tastes better and bodybuilders will swear by it.

i recommend getting it from myprotein.co.uk - i get the unflavoured kind and mix it into sugar free jelly :D

whey, or a whey blend that uses egg albumen or casein.
and there's multiple types of whey...whey isolates, microfiltered whey prtoein, whey concentrate, hydrolyzed whey peptides...

as you're in the US, I would start with a commercial brand like Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey. it tastes good and is a quality product.

soy isn't as biologically available as whey, and lots of people experience bloating with soy, especially men.

I'm not real fond of soy as a protein source in general. i don't run from foods with soy it them, but i don't seek them out either.

Agreed...and yes, he meant soy causes bloating. :)

doesnt soy promote the making of estrogen or something which can lower your testoserone levels? if i eat like 18g soy a day will it really affect test. levels?

yes, I meant soy, and fixed that. man today has been rough at work.

the verdict is still out on whether the plant 'estrogens' really have any affect on testosterone or estrogen levels in humans.

Not the making...

Soy contains estrogen, but on top of raising estrogen levels relative to T, it also lowers the cells ability to utilize t by blocking the receptors with it's estrogen hormones.

I think the limit being set is 25g or less a day.
