Weight-Loss Protein Shakes and Meal Replacement Shakes

Hey Everyone!!

I need some help setting up my daily calorie intake.

I am about to incorporate protein shakes and meal replacement powder/shakes into my diet, but I want to do it the right way without reducing my calorie intake too much.

So currently, I consume, on a good day, 1400 calories. But with a meal replacement shake and protein shake, I still want to eat healthy foods *cough* real food *cough*.

So I'm wondering how I should incorporate these meal replacement shakes and protein shakes into my day without going over my calorie intake..

I wouldn't use the meal replacement shake to replace a full meal, but would drink it as an appetite suppressant.

Ideal day:
-protein shake
-cottage cheese w/ berries & fruit
-sandwich//chicken breast
-baby carrots
-protein shake + meal replacement shake combo
-frozen entree w/ veggies

how does that sound for a day? is that healthy diet?
 
why incorporate meal replacement shakes or protein shakes at all? just eat real food. specially if your goal is to suppress appetite. 250ml of a protein drink = a very large chicken breast. take a guess which makes you feel fuller.
 
The right answer is chicken breast.

What makes me feel dense is chicken breast, full is protein drink.

My dad purchased this stuff for me from his pyramid scheme so I have to try this stuff out.

I figured out it's only 185 calories more each day. I'm already at a large calorie deficit, so there can't be anything wrong with adding this.
 
Using it as an appetite suppressant or a meal replacement is not the correct way to use protein powder, IMO.

People need to stop looking at it as some kind of magic bullet and start thinking of protein powder as just another kind of food - because that's all it really is.

I usually come home from my workout and have a scoop of powder whirled in a blender with a handful of frozen blueberries and either a spoonful of yogurt for creaminess or just some water added. To me it's not a meal replacement or to suppress my appetite for dinner - it's just a snack. I try to make sure that every snack contains protein and either fruit or veg and this fits the bill. If I didn't have protein powder available, I'd have almonds and blueberries. Or I'd have cheese and an apple. Or whatever. The protein powder is quick and easy and gives me a little bit more protein than the other options ... but again, it's NOT a replacement. It's just food.
 
I have protein powder AND another powder that is for meal replacement. I put those two powders in the same cup of water.

I agree, Kara. It's a easy way to get some protein in. I just put it in water and chug away.

According to the company and directions, the two powders act in a way to suppress appetite.....but I'm no fool.

It's basically soy protein powder, so I'm going to drink it as protein powder. Unfortunately, my father had spent $400 on a 6-month supply of protein powder.

According to the company, I can eat anything and everything but because of these two products I will curb my appetite. Screw you. That is what I say. Since I'm already on a cleaner diet, I am definitely not going to let these products allow me to cheat on my diet.

I was just afraid that with a cleaner diet, that these two products would make me want to curb my appetite. That is something I don't want, because I'm already at a large calorie deficit.

That fear has started this thread.
 
While I understand that your dad spent $400 on these powders, I think you need to look at them carefully - look at the ingredients, look at your diet and see how and if it fits in - and see if they're for you.

If someone spent $400 on diet pills, would you take them just because? Of course not. :) Yes the money is a lot of money - but you can't sabotage yourself just because your dad did something ... well, not so smart (no disrespect meant to your dad!).

The one that's supposed to be a meal replacement and supposed to suppress your appetite - does it have drugs or herbs in it? Is it full of chemicals? Then I'd ditch it. Plain soy protein or whey protein? Go for it. As just another part of your overall eating plan, though, not a meal substitute.
 
ya in that case, adding it as a on the go meal here and there is fine. but the biggest mistake people make is thinking that the supplements are somehow better or will makes their goals easier to obtain vs real food. this is false. real food is always better. But if you understand this, then chug away. Having the odd shake here and there is perfectly fine

One word of cation. Meal replacement is usually code for "crap ton of sugar". So make sure that the bulk of the calories are not from sugar sources if you're going to be eating it.

As a protein powder, the amount of protein is quite low......

Sigh* I could not take this stuff and just toss the daily scoops. I'm hoping this doesn't have a negative effect on my weight loss journey.

Once I feel funny, uncomfortable, or sick, this shit is out the door. Until then, I don't see what I got to lose. I hate being risky...hate it.
