Protein shake question!

I have recently been thinking about trying protein shakes to gain weight..but there's always people that tell me it will make me fat! Im 5'0 tall and weight roughly 95 pounds and would like to be around 120ish..i want to gain muscle weight but i am afraid to try this because of different stories (the carbs will make me get fat,if i ever stop taking it i will get fat etc) i want opinions from someone who really knows what they are talking about...and maybe some pointers and advice on what kind to use! I work out but i do it at home...i work out every day for atleast half an hour to an hour or more
