Sport Protein... set me straight

Sport Fitness
Hi, i know this has been asked millions of times before, but i am not exactly clear on it as a lot of people seem to have mixed opinions and reviews.

I work out 4-5 times a week and i have just started to take 2 shakes a day (1 shake = 2 large scoops of protein + 150ml of milk and 100ml of water)

What exactly does a protein shake do for you?

a - makes you bigger
b - makes you more defined
c - makes you stronger
d - you tell me :)

I really want to hit the nail on the head here so i have a complete understanding, thanks in advance

Protein is a macronutrient comprised of amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of life. Without them you cannot repair damaged muscle tissue.

Protein is NOT a magic 'genie in a bottle' supplement that makes you look like a He-Man action figure.

Protein IS FOOD. A whey shake is no different than eating a steak. It has calories and nutrients. Too much steak...yhou get fat. Too much whey powder, you get fat.

Most new trainees don't eat enough protein to meet the demands of their workouts.
Thus when most new trainees add protein shakes to what they already eat, they experience less soreness, and better gains.

Since entire libraries of research have been done on protein, this is all the more I am going to say in a forums post.

you need to know what you eat, and how much you eat (i.e. food logs so you can track your macro ratios and caloric intake) so you know how its affecting your body.
