PROTEIN Recommendation??

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I have a few other questions..

I'm about 5'10'', 145 lbs, but I feel like lately I have hit my plateau in terms of weight gain and weight lifting.

In high school (around 3 years ago) I was about 125 lbs and did protein for a while and got up to 135 lbs, then I worked out heavy freshman and sophomore year of college and got up to 145.

However, I've been at 145 for over a year now and havent seen gains in a while, and I am CHANGING up my routine as well.

I am pretty sure I want to get back on the protein, I just need some recommendations. I know there are no long term studies on this stuff, but I can't really do anything about that.

Are there any protein supplements without Aspartame in them? I'm looking for a powder also btw, to mix with smoothies and whatnot.

Thanks a lot for any help, I really appreciate it.

To gain weight, you will need to eat more calories than you burn. I suspect that you do a lot of cardio excercise or just plain and simply have a high metabolism so I would suggest eating Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwhiches with whole wheat bread. That should supply you with the extra 500 calories need to add some weight. Suggest to eat that at brunch btw.

As for protein, take some Whey after working out. If you want Synthea 6 is good for am-pm protein and either take Casein or eat Cottage cheese at night. In general, whey is fast acting and should be taken within 30 minutes of workout vs casein which is a slow protein which is great for night time.

Alright thanks a lot I appreciate the advice....Syntha 6 isn't whey protein though right? I think I'm looking for more of a whey supplement, so do you have any specific recommendations for that or just any whey is good? Also again, if there are any made without aspartame that be great as well. thanks.

I would suggest trying Grow! Whey by Biotest. (biotest.net) I have always had a hard time putting on weight and I started eating right and drinking this after working out and have put on 10 lbs of muscle. I would also suggest looking into recovery drinks. They are especailly good for us skinny guys who want to pack on muscle. Hope that helps a bit and good luck!

I recoment Nitrean! It's great. It's a combo of Whey and Cassein so its good for both immediately post workout and overnight.

I do 2 scoops a day. :)

I am not too sure what each has in it but here is the company name and why I take them. I buy my supplement at bodybuilding.com ( no I don't work for them, its just a cheap place to buy stuff).

1) Optinum Nutrition Whey (cappicino flavor) - whey is fast acting and I use ON because its a good company and their product tastes pretty good. You can buy the variety box and then buy the bigger container of what you like afterward. Like white bread, used right rather your workout.

2) Synthea 6- has both casein and whey mixture. It's kinda like the banana, in a sense that it is fast acting protein with some slow digesting component as well.

3) ON casein - this is your slow digesting protein like wheat bread.

Personally, if I had to choose one, I would go with Whey. Synthea 6 is just fine tuning stuff, you dont' absolutely have it but if you have the spare cash, try it out.
