Protein powder just for muscle gain?

I used to lift weights and used protein shakes throughout that time.

In the last few weeks I have switched my training to more of a strength/weight loss bent, via group classes, such as pump, boxercise and body combat.

I was wondering whether protein powder might still play a part in my routine, or is that more useful for straight muscle buidling?

Protein is useful in weight loss. It will keep you from losing muscle mass while you diet.
