Depending upon the level of its consumption, excessive protein intake can create stress upon the kidneys, but you’d need to consume excessive amounts each day to place such a demand upon them.
As a general rule, consumption of 1g of protein per lb of body weight, in individuals who exercise regularly, should be more than sufficient in supporting growth and maintenance, without placing stress upon the kidneys.
Although it may have been championed over the consumption of carbohydrate and fat as wonder macro-nutrient, while it remains important, the body will only utilise as much protein as it needs (based upon the type and intensity of exercise), with any excess being excreted.
As such, by aiming to ensure that protein comprises around 35-40% of daily intake, you’ll be satisfying the body’s need, without placing unnecessary stress upon the kidneys.
