Sport Protein on days off/cardio days

Sport Fitness
Should you still have the same amount of protein and protein shakes on days when you are not excercising? im wanting to burn fat but feel like im getting size rather than definition.

And should i have a Post WO shake after cardio only sessions?

At the moment i have them all the time, i most do 2 hours of resistance then HIIT or steady pace.

Thanks
Ben

If your trying to lose weight then you should consider your protien intake.
Its pretty obvious that if your trying to lose weight, and you are exercising but your still getting bigger than you are eatting too much. And that may be due to the protien shakes. How many carbs in each shake?

a good weights workout should last 45-60mins.

in answer to your Q, your protein levels should stay constant throu the week, your muscles grow after your workout for a couple of days.

Yes, protein intake should stay pretty constent everyday as manofkent said. Also, there is really no need to have a protein shake after cardio as there really isn't a significant loss of muscle glycogen, unless you are running a marathon.

A whole food meal would be ideal.

so if i have 3 17g shakes a day, 1 in the morning, 1 one hour before WO and one immediate post WO, plus then a meal around half an later would that ok??? it ups the calorie consumption PO but because i get back from the gym at around 9-10pm im a bit limited timewise.

thanks

Yes, thats fine. I'd make your PPWO whole food meal about an hour after your PWO shake. Make sure both meals contain pro/carbs.

just like weight training and cardio endurance, diet is more about your long term trends. Because the body adapts to everything when given time, you need to feed it consistently to get results.

If you eat 500 cals under maintenance today, but 500 over tomorrow, then you don't gain or lose anything. but consistently staying 500 under maintenace for a week should net you a pound of pure fat being shed. But the worse part is the body doesn't know if its gonna be lacking calories tomorrow, or having a surplus.

But if everyday you are 500 under maintenance, the body knows it's gonna need to burn some fat to keep your energy up. by the same token if you're bulking, the body needs to know it'll have the extra 500 cals to rebuild damaged muscle tissues.

So daily intake matters, but if you're not consistent, you're not gaining any ground.

brilliant answer

thanks very much
