Protein Frequency

I am taking optimal nutrition whey protein. I am drinking about 3-4 servings per day to get some what close to 1.5 grams per lb of body weight. My question is 1) Is there any reason to take more or less and 2) Should I eat protein everyday, regardless of off days from the gym. I am working out 4-5 days a week M,W,F,Sa so on T,TH should I take the same amount of supplements ?

Thanks

You should get about the same amount of protein a day. The only thing i cycle is carb intake. More on Training days them off days.

Are you bulking? cutting?

1g per pound a day is the baseline norm. unless you are a 250lb IFBB pro, you likely don't need 1.5g

Thanks for the info.

Bulking - but not too much! Currently 180-185 range / 6'1" so just looking for additional mass. Want to keep the weight in the ball park. You know - the typical fat for muscle switch...

I will drop to 1g.

What happens to excess protein?

excess protein just has to be processed and excreted as waste. as long as you're drinking plenty of water, the excess won't hurt you (you may hear things about kidney stones, kidney failure/problems...most are myths, especially if you stay hydrated).

maybe aim for 1.25g Also, Carbs are very important to bulking. carbs are your primary energy source so you gotta get plenty of those so all your protein is used to repair/build muscle.

also keep fat intake up when bulking. 25-30% of your daily calories should be from fat, primarily healthy, unsaturated fats.

however, saturated fat is anabolic, so don't avoid it completely...just don't over do it.

U sure? Wont it be turned in to stored energy, i.e. fat.

Only if the protein ends up creating enough of a calorie surplus. But you're right, I didn't mention that. My focus was just that eating more and more protein doesn't necessarily equate to adding more muscle mass.
