Sport Protein Bars

Sport Fitness
I currently go to college, and Mondays and Wednesdays are very hectic for me. I got to 6 hours of classes with no breaks in between. Most of my classes are in lecture halls, so food isn't allowed in. I do have 10 minutes between each class and that time is usually spent walking to my next class.

So i was wondering if there any good protein or meal replacements bars that i can eat while i walk to one of my classes.

As of right now, I'm usually eating a cereal bar (honey nut cheerios) or some of the Special K bars.

I dont think those are really good choices, so any help would be great.

Stats: im 6 feet tall, i weigh about 185, i just turned 18 like 5 days ago.

If you really want a protein snack, try salmon, turkey, or beef jerky. Lots of protein, low fat, low carb. But can be expensive. Probably best eaten in conjunction with other foods (whole fruits and vegetables are always good choices; nuts can be good if you want more calories or good fats).

No. They're almost always candy bars in disguise. Some of them aren't even disguised, actually. Personally, in a time crunch or with no other option, I check the ingredients for where the fat is coming from and try to get one that's lowest in sugar. That usually means tons of sugar alcohol, which can put you in the bathroom, but that's something you'll have to learn the hard way :).

I really don't have much money to spend on salmon or turkey jerky and if protein bars are usually candy bars in disguise, what other options are there?

should i carry some of those small bags of peanuts with me and eat some as i walk to class?

unsalted nuts are pretty good snack food as is dried fruit, both behave well in most temperatures and are esy to snack on and store.
although I dont believe that all protein bars are candy in camo you do have to be very careful as lots of them are full of sugar so sometimes you may as well have a candy bar.
Go natural, go green.

Peanuts, walnuts, almonds, whatever. String cheese, apples, other fruit, sunflower seeds, are all good options also. I can almost...well no, I CAN guarantee that protein bars are costing you more than the items I just listed, and likely more than jerky also.

I agree. Protein bars are not cheap. Beef jerky is relatively cheaper and has a good amount of protein. String cheese is a great snack and has protein as well.

As far as bars, I'm a big fan of Cliff bars, South Beach Diet protein bars (especially the peanut butter and chocolate), and chewey granola bars (those have a good amount of protein).

You should also try carrying a nalgene bottle. Drinking water during classes will keep down hunger for a while... or fill it with a protein shake.

Why not just take a couple of scoops of protein in a water bottle / mixer? After class is out, go to the water fountain, and you have a protein shake. I know some people are repulsed by water with protein, but I am one of the few that don't mind it. Drink it on your way to the next class.

This is a good idea as well, just don't mix it too early before you drink it!

there are also lots of good recipes for cheap and very easy to make energy/protein bars. There are hundreds of recipes on the web.

you would be suprised how many bars you can make with oatmeal, peanut butter, whey, and some pudding mix.
