Weight-Loss Protein Bars

Weight-Loss
It depends on what your goals are as far as weight loss, muscle gain, low-carb diet, meal replacement, snack etc.

There are many kinds of workout/meal replacement/protein bars on the market and what you choose should mostly be based on your calorie goal along with a macronutrient ratio (the ratio of protein to fat to carbs) that works for you. One general rule that I've found helpful is that regardless of the carbs, less than half should come from sugar, it's always a check I make when looking at these products.

If you explain your goals and how you want this food to fit into that, then you'll probably get some better suggestions.

The only ones I will eat are Clif Bars. I did try the Mojo bars the other day and I liked them. Even Clif bars though, the #1 ingredient is high fructose corn syrup so they're not really for constant use. With these bars, you need something that acts as a glue to hold everything together, and they are designed to keep you from bonking, so between the "glue" needs and the high carbs need... corn syrup and rice syrup are about the best choices.

I use them as snacks during the day to keep my blood sugar steady. They probably are glorified candy bars but the ones that I eat are 110 calories . I eat 2 and am satisfied for a few hours.

meal replacement in the mornings because I hate putting any effort into mornings. Right now I'm looking to lose weight and maintain the muscle I already have.

I just wanna know why these energy bars are so thick and tough to eat. They're not bad but it just takes to much effort to chew... :)

Lara bars...made by cliff bars...nothing but fruit and nuts in it cause they are made for people who are on a raw foods diet...so nothing in it is a cooked processed food.

They are very tastey and it is better for you than most protein bars. It sounds gross but they are pretty much nuts and fruit smushed together but they have so many different flavors...they are worth it.

whatta deal

At a local Big Lots in western N.Y they had cases of South Beach Diet bars , 2.11 oz , 210 calories , 19 g protein , 26 carbs . They only had caramel peanut crisp . bought one case and tried em , enjoyed and bought 4 more ! Get this the best part was they were 50 cents each or shall i say $6.00 for a case ! Whatta deal !

I make my own using figs, dates, any other dried fruits I feel like at the moment, nuts, ground flax seed, oat bran, wheat germ, sometimes a bit of cocoa powder or protein powder, dark chocolate chips, etc. Mix whatever you choose to your taste and run it through a food processor. You may have to add a few more figs or dates to get a consistency you like. Then the entire thing can be sprinkled with cinnamon, flattened out (I use a rolling pin) and cut into bars. Putting wax paper between them keeps them from sticking together. Good stuff!

Just about every bar you find commercially produced will have tons of high fructose corn syrup (awful for blood sugar). Some bars will have 'sugar alcohols' which will raise your blood sugar, but not as much as HFCS. However they've been known to make people sick...the best option is making your own.

Just google 'homemade protein bar' and you'll come up with tons of recipes:
